Is Your Refrigerator Water Dispenser Line Frozen?

My husband hates refilling our Keurig. He comments about it often. You see, I have a habit of grabbing my cup, filling it with water, pouring it into the water reservoir and then putting in my k-cup and brewing my coffee. When I go for my 2nd morning cup I again just pour a cup of water before I brew one. It’s never an issue to me. He, on the other hand, when he is ‘off’ or home that morning and drinking more than 1 cup-to-go out the door on the way to work will walk to the Keurig and brew the coffee and walk away.

Troubleshooting a Kenmore refrigerator ice maker means starting with simple fixes and working your way up to trickier and more costly repairs as needed. Simple Solutions Temperature Settings Kenmore refrigerators won’t make ice if the freezer temperature is set above 10 degrees Fahrenheit, with the optimal setting between 0 and 5 degrees F. Check your refrigerator to make sure the temperature setting is right, and adjust as needed until you’re in the right range.

Change the Filter Ice maker filters capture impurities in the water supply so they don’t end up in your ice. If you neglect your filter for too long, it could become clogged, which would prevent water from reaching the ice-making mechanism and prevent your unit from working. Try changing your filter for a new one to see if this solves the problem.

Check Water Pressure Ice makers can’t make ice if the water pressure in your home is below 20 pounds per square inch. Pick up a simple water pressure gauge and hook it to any hose or washing machine bib to check your pressure. Intermediate Issues Door Switch Failure The door switch in a refrigerator alerts the ice maker when the door is open, rendering the ice and water dispenser disabled.

If the door switch fails, it may fool the ice maker into not working even when the door is closed. Check your door switch for continuity using a multimeter. If you don’t have one, you may be able to borrow one for free from your local library. If the multimeter indicates a lack of continuity in the switch, you’ll need to replace the switch to get your ice maker working again. Ice Mold Thermostat The ice mold thermostat helps control the process of molding ice in the ice tray.

Freezers In-the-door ice and water dispensers have become common on refrigerators, especially in the bottom-freezer and side-by-side categories. Leaking water under frig and ice-maker is not hooked up?

My new refrigerator has an automatic ice maker. I need to run a water line to it. The salesperson at the appliance store sold me a kit that clamps onto a regular water pipe. Also, I have heard that hot water freezes faster than cold water. Should I connect the line to a hot water line?

Thread the water line, included in the ice maker installation kit, from the area behind the refrigerator to beneath the sink. Leave the excess water line behind the refrigerator.

A refrigerator water valve is an important component of most refrigerators that have an icemaker, water dispenser, or both. Since most refrigerators now have an automatic ice maker or a water dispenser, it is important to know where to locate the refrigerator water valve in order to properly shut it off during needed repairs. Without the refrigerator water valve, it will be harder to make repairs if there are leaks or damages in the icemaker and the water dispenser.

Since it is not always advisable or practical to shut off the entire household water system, it is important to have this water inlet valve installed in order to control the flow of water to the fridge. Here is how to shut off the refrigerator water valve while you’re doing refrigerator maintenance.

Step 1 — Locate the Refrigerator Water Valve First you need to find where the water valve is located. This can be a little tricky sometimes, especially if the inlet valve was manually installed by someone else. Usually, it’s located at the wall at the back of the refrigerator. Move the refrigerator forward to reveal the location of the valve. If the valve is hidden in a box covered by a plastic or metal guard, unscrew the guard to reveal the valve.

If the valve is not found at the back of the fridge, follow the water supply line until the valve is found. It can be located near the cold water supply valve at the bottom of the sink. If not, keep following the water supply line. If the valve uses a lever to turn it on or off, simply rotate the lever to shut it off.
